Please find below the words for each day of the Collage challenge. We start the challenge on Monday but I want you to be able to get a head start over the weekend.
If you want to participate but did not take photos don’t worry. I will be placing my photos from the challenge in a gallery and you are welcome to use them for this challenge. You also can grab additional photos from the creative commons on Flickr. Make sure all photographs you use for the challenge are your own, are in the creative commons or you have specific permission to use them. Germany has strict IP laws for photography, please respect them.
Wait Until Monday to submit day 1 of the challenge. I don’t want people to miss your collages. Good Luck and I look forward to seeing your art. Remember, we will have a get together on the 19th and I will be hanging one of your collages on the wall (They need to be at the studio on Thursday for me to do this).
Day 1 – Poem by Maya Angelou – I know why the Caged Bird Sings
The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.
But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom
The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.
Day 2 – Quote by Hans/Jean Arp
“Die Kunst aber ist Wirklichkeit, und die gemeinsame Wirklichkeit muß über dem Besonderen laut werden.”
Day 3 – Song by John Lennon – Working Class Hero (edited slightly)
As soon as you’re born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all …
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you’re clever and they despise a fool
Till you’re so fucking crazy you can’t follow their rules …
When they’ve tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear …
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you’re so clever and classless and free
But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see …
There’s room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
