Say Hello 2017 will be at Freiraum 16 Art Gallery, Munich Germany on April 22, 2017

  1. First Installation Location
Artwork in this photo is by Artist Andreas Jungk
Artwork in this photo is by Artist Andreas Jungk. I was focusing on the ceiling where the installation will hang during the event.

Our Say Hello 2017 installation will be shown From April 13 – April 24, 2017 at Oefelestr. 13a, 81543 Munich, Germany. (We install the installation from April 10 – 13th. Boxes need to be at Frauenstrasse 18 by April 4, 2017 because I need to see how many I have AND photograph them.)

Gallery Owner Angelika Baumgartner asked that we extend the hours for the event so Say Hello 2017  will start at 1400 and go until 1800 but, if you want to stay later, we have the luxury of staying until the stars begin to twinkle in the sky.

The gallery space is 100 sqm so there is plenty of room for the installation and for the artists, family, friends and other Munich Creatives.

2. More Information About the Say Hello Event

Video FAQ. I am making a video right now with more information about the box and the installation. If you have any questions, you can email me

EXPLAIN YOUR ART.  This year, I will make a list of artists who want to explain their art pieces.  I found from the Munich Inspire book, that there were some great stories of why the pieces were made for the book and I only found out about the stories when the artists came to my studio to pick up their books.  Short talk.  Keep it to 5-10 minutes. You do not have to talk about your piece but I want you to know that Say Hello 2017 is a safe place to share your artwork and your stories. Everyone who comes to Say Hello is happy that you are being creative and wanting to share.  We will set a timer for you so that everyone who wants to talk has the opportunity.

Be on Time.  Like last year, I would like everyone to be there at 1400 so we can introduce each artist this year and at that point the artist can talk about their art pieces.  This will start at 1430.

3.  Our Event Book – Munich Look Book

We will have a book again this year. It will be called Munich Look Book.  It will have your boxes in the first section.  The second section of the book, you can have one page to show a variety of your work or Create a unique page of art (like a journal page).  I will be sharing more details about the Look Book tomorrow.  The Look Book costs is included in the 50 Euro fee so there is no additional fee.

NOTE: If you want to be in the book but you don’t want to be in the installation, the fee will be 100 Euro.  No explanation for the cost. That is just what you have to pay not to be there on April 22.

We will have a second look book in the fall based on the playing card artwork and Munich Stories artwork.  Cost will be 30 Euro for artists who participated in Say Hello 2017 and 50 Euros for everyone else.

4. Selection for Future Munich Artists Projects  (Munich Artists Playing Cards, Munich Stories, MA-The window, Inspire project)

  • Say Hello 2017 will be where we select artists for our visual projects this year.  If you want to participate in the Munich Artists Playing Cards project, you will need to be at the event.
  • We will be expanding the number of artists to 108  and the number of decks to two so that people can play rummy. 1 deck will be photography.  1 deck will be figurative, mixed media.   More information on the Munich artists Playing Cards will also be posted this week. There is a small 20 Euro fee this year for each artist but you get a deck of cards and Elizabeth H., Holger K. and I have less stress. (Cards are expensive to print, we are still in the red from last year.)
  • If you would like to participate in our Munich Stories project and you are a visual artist, please let me know. I’m starting to make the teams next week.
  • If you would like to be involved in the Inspire Project 2017, you can let me know at the event. I will have a signup sheet.  This year, the inspiration will not be an artist but the feeling of pain. This topic was inspired by a talk I had with a German medical doctor who said that pain helps you know you are alive. Without pain, you die.   The inspire project will be an open call project open to all artists and creatives with no geographic boundaries or medium. If you can photograph or write it, it can be in the book.  I will make a separate post for this with more details.  This book will be print on demand and offered as a kindle version.  The submission fee will be 20 Euro. No physical book included.  You will get a PDF version to share.
  • Christmas Ornaments – If you have an idea you want to share or want to hold a workshop, please let me know.  I want a Christmas tree full of hand made ornaments/ artist ornaments. Ideas for this project are appreciated.  We have one artist, Rainer Schmitten, who will be doing a lino cut workshop for us.    Artists have been asking me for a fundraiser project. We can make this the fundraiser if you want with all proceeds going to charity or we can make it whatever you want artists. I just want some ornaments on my tree this year.

Did I forget anything? Probably.

Macht, was immer Ihr wollt!
Here is a post from last year’s  500 Artists Say Hello event.
Here is a little video of 500 Artists Say Hello

Munich Artists Say Hello 2017

Hello Munich Artists!  It is time for us to think about Munich Artists Say Hello 2017.

  • DATE:  Saturday April 22, 2017
  • Location: TBD (Somewhere in Munich, Germany)
  • Time: 1400 – 1800 (maybe a bit later depending on the location and how much fun we are having.)
  • Fee: 50 Euro
  • DEADLINE for Box Submission April 4, 2017.
  • DEADLINE for Payment and RSVP – March 15, 2017.

Say Hello With A Box

This year, you will be using a box.  This specific box.  You can buy the box at the art stores for under 3 Euro. (2,84 Euro) at Gerstaecker.  PLEASE USE THIS EXACT BOX. Do not make your own box.  I want this box which is 16 x12.5 x 4 cm.

Now, what will you do with this box?   There are no rules regarding what you make.  Do whatever you want with this box.

Whatever artwork you make must not be bigger than this box.

You are allowed to manipulate the box in whatever way you want or make the box your composition for your artwork. The finished art piece may not be bigger than the size of this box.  Finished sculptures may not be bigger than this box. Photographers, you can photograph the box or you can make the box a frame for your artwork.  The finished size of your art piece may not be bigger than this box so if you print a print, the print no matter how you print it may not be bigger than this box. You may make a second print if I have wall space BUT DO NOT DO THIS WITHOUT TALKING WITH ME IN ADVANCE!!

THEME –  Munich Artists/500 Artists Say Hello is a way for you to introduce yourself to me and to the other artists in Munich.  I want this box and that is the only limit I am putting on you.  Do not use the world hello.  I want this artwork to represent your artwork and style and personal self.

All boxes will be photographed and put on the website and also in a book.  If we get the right kind of space, I will make an installation from the boxes.  If no appropriate space can be found for an installation, I will turn Frauenstrasse 18 into an exhibition room to show off the boxes During May and June.   For this exhibition, I will empty out most of Frauenstrasse to give us room to show the boxes (Very exciting.)

Submissions for Event:

lookNote I:   This year we will be having 2 Munich Artists Look Books.  The first Look Book will be the artwork from this event.  The second look book will be published in September 2017 and will have a different theme.   I have 2 Munich Artists who have volunteered to help with the Look Books.  If you want to be involved in the development of the Look Books, you can let me know.    We will allow artists to advertise in the look book.  The book will be divided into the artwork part in the front and then the artist ads in the back.  The art ads will be linked to ads on the website.   I will be creating a separate post about the Munich Artists Look book.

The second look book will be published in September 2017 and will have a different theme.

I have 2 Munich Artists who have volunteered to help with the Look Books.  If you want to be involved in the development of the Look Books, you can let me know.    We will allow artists to advertise in the look book in addition to the themed image they share.  The book will be divided into the artwork part which is curated and then the artist ads in the back.

The art ads will be linked to ads on the website.   I will be creating a separate post about the Munich Artists Look book and ads and how we are going to move art news for Munich Artists to a news blog.

NOTE II:   This blog post will be translated into German and will be on the website as soon as Holger translates it into German.

NOTE III:  I will not mail artwork back to you. I will keep the artwork for 1 year. After the year, I will donate any artwork not picked up to charity.  If you would like to participate, please keep this in mind.  I still have artwork from 2016.

500 Artists Say Hello Project 2017

I posted yesterday our list of projects for 2017 and someone emailed me about 500 Artists Say Hello so I wanted to share more information in this post about 500 Artists Say Hello 2017.

Munich Artists events are a way for Munich Artists to collaborate together and create something a bit bigger while having fun and enjoying each other’s company.

Our events are a way for you to share your artwork with your fellow artists and enjoy the process of creation for the pure joy of creating.

For Say Hello 2017, We are going to use a box.  I was thinking of a cube but now, I think this kind of box would be more interesting.

The box has a plastic lid that slides back.  I will order a sample to see what it looks like in real life and give you dimensions.  I’m hoping to get boxes that are A5/A4 in size but I don’t know yet the size or the cost.

Once I have the details, I will have you sign up for the boxes and make an order so that you have 2 months to create your art piece. (It takes one to two months to get the boxes so I need to order them in November/December.)

For photographers who don’t want to mess with making the box into an art piece, You can make a photo box or use the box as a frame or as the subject of your art piece.

As we did in 2016, We will have a book with all the artists participating.  The book will be called Munich Artists Look Book.  For 2017, the pages will be designed by you. 21cm x21 cm with a bleed 21,3 cm x 21,3cm

I want each page to include

  • a photo of your box artwork.
  • Your name and contact details.
  • No marketing or promotion.  Think of this as an example of your artwork for others to understand your art style.
  • Digital or Hand drawn and then photographed.   Be creative.

I must easily find your name and the art piece made from the box.  This is what people will see for you and use to pick artists for future projects like Munich Stories and Munich Artists Playing Cards.

This book will help you find artists to work with on your  500 Artists Undercover umbrella or to see if there is someone who you can collaborate with for our brand.

Here is a simple example just in case you don’t want to think too hard about your lookbook page:

I will make this sample .psd file available ( for you to use so that you can just pop in your data.  I will not be doing any design work on your personal pages.  This is up to you to create.

COSTS: 50 Euro which includes the cost of the book, and some money to the gallery who will be displaying the work for a month. (Cost might fluctuate depending on the cost of the box. We will be using the box that I mention in this blog post.

500 Artists Say Hello Installation Artwork 2016

We celebrated our first 500 Artists Say Hello event on Saturday April 23, 2016 and are proud to share with you the installation artwork displayed at Quiddestr. 45.  Thank you to all the artists, family, friends and supporters who attended our gathering yesterday and thank you to Art in Motion and Paata (Nino Khundadze’s husband) for performing during the afternoon event.

We will be organising another 500 artists evening event on November 19th to celebrate the creation of our artists playing cards…so save the date!

If you would like to see the installation, the location will be open on Wed, Thurs. & Friday of this week from 1500 to 1900.  If you would like our Hello 2016 booklet, you can email me at Emmy The booklets is 10 Euro.

Pizza Delivery by Michaela Wuehr? What’s in the Box?

While I worked on the booklet for our 500 Artists Say Hello event,  Michaela Wuehr knocked on my door and walked in with a pizza.

“Pizza!  I love pizza but I thought you wanted to go have a juice?” I said jumping up to grab a piece of “Buena Pizza!”

Pizza delivery by Michaela Wuehr

“No, Emmy. There is no pizza.”

No Pizza? Lunchtime hunger clouded my eyes.  I looked suspiciously at Michaela as she smiled and lifted the lid. The smell of oil paint hit my nostrils.

oh! It’s a 500 Artists Say Hello art piece!

500 Artists Say Hello art by Michaela Wuehr.  The above piece was still wet and Michaela wanted to make sure the piece stayed safe as she made her way from her studio in Maxvorstadt to my space at Frauenstrasse.

I love it!  The packaging was so urban just like the NYC scene depicted in the art piece. They belong together. I promise, if you buy her piece, you can take home the pizza box.

I told Michaela she needed to incorporate pizza boxes into her marketing plan cause I loved getting her art piece in a pizza box.

Michaela also had a cool idea where she would say the box was her piece and that orange was blue and green was black – mix it up a bit. I love that idea but I am really happy she decided to make an oil painting for our event.

Hopefully I will have a surprise for you tomorrow/Wed. Please feel encouraged to find fun ways to surprise Munich Artists. We enjoy positive surprises especially when we are stuck on the computer working all day.

Event Update for 500 Artists Say HEllO

Hello Munich Artists!

Here is the scoop.

  • Our event is April 23, 2016 from 1400 to 1800 (Middle of the day after you finish your errands and before you head out for your evening activities.)
  • People want to eat so they are bringing food to share.  Bring food to share and napkins and plates and utensils, better to have more than not enough.
  • We have more than 100 artists who have agreed to share artwork for our “500 Artists Say Hello” event so I will be working with more than 100 art pieces for the installation at Quiddestr. 45.
  • Most of the artwork for the installation has arrived downtown.  (Hurray! Only a few stragglers who will be bringing pieces this weekend.)
  • More than 620 people consider themselves Munich Artists.
  • We registered more than 100 artists for the Munich Art Market.
  • If you want to be considered for the Munich Art Market and you are not showing artwork in the installation, you must register at the event. The registration fee is 20 Euro. Registration/application does not guarantee we will accept your work for sale.
  • We want to start looking for group discounts.  To do this, I need to create a database of Munich Artists members.  I want to see if we can get discounts at art stores and those specialty stores I’m hunting down.   To do this, I will be making a Munich Artists ID card. (snazzy) It will be good for one year.   All artists registered for the 500 artists event will get a card on April 23. All other artists/supporters must apply for the card and the fee for the card will be 30 Euro to cover admin costs of creating a discount/membership card.
  • You don’t have to attend the event or be an artist to be a member of Munich Artists. We will have cards for artists and art supporters.  You will need to pay 30 Euro and fill in the application form which will be posted after the event (we will have forms at the event for you to fill in if you come and hang out with us on April 23rd.)
  • I’m working on the booklet this week. I decided to print it using a printer and asked Roy Hessing to let us use the photograph below. I just finished the forward and will be populating the pages with your images and words.  I will be sending it to the printer on Monday.

  • We will be printing some shirts. We will be posting the options next week for Pre-order.  If you have a favourite print shop for shirts please let me know. I want thick cotton and a Vneck shirt option cause I’m a girl. We will only print by demand/order for the event.
  • If you want to “project manage” T-shirts, please let me know.  We will be offering the T-shirts as part of our product line to fund Munich Artists projects so we need to be able to make a bit of profit from the shirts.

  • I need a volunteer to manage the registration table, the food table, the application table and cleanup.

Hello Oliver Rennen – Maker & Artist in Munich

We have a maker/artist interested in collaborating. I’m not sharing Oliver’s portrait because he will be in our book and you can use the book to find him on April 23rd at our 500 artists say hello event.

What kind of collaborations  does Oliver want?

Oliver is open to ideas and is willing to work with a few of you to create some really cool art using 3D printers, lasers and cool gadgets from the makers space.

Oliver’s Hello Art

Oliver created his art piece using a 3D print file, cutting the different layers and then using a laser to cut hello and the background design into the paper.

In the photo below you can see an extra piece created using this process. Oliver created a software program to help  the laser to cut more than 100 pieces which make up the body of his work.

Artwork by Oliver Rennen – 3d print file/laser cutting

I’m really happy that Oliver will be joining us on April 23rd. We have around 100 artists showing artwork.  If you sent in your application and have not heard from me, please let me know so I can  If you emailed me and do not have a response, please send me a reminder email so I can search my email for missing photos/applications.

For our first 500 artists say hello event, we have:

  • Illustration
  • Oil/Acrylic/Ink Abstracts
  • Oil/Acrylic/Ink Figurative Work
  • Cartoon
  • Photography
  • Sculpture (wood, paper )
  • Dance (in Video format)
  • Music (in Video format)
  • Mixed Media
  • Jewellery

We are creating a website for the 500 Artists project and will show you all the works and the artists on this site.  It has been exciting to see the artwork coming in and the diversity that we have in art here in Munich.  I’m very lucky to get to meet all of you before the event and to share your artwork with the Munich Artists community.

If you are reading this, and you want your artwork included, I’m still working on the booklet so can add a page or three.   Once the booklet is off to the printers, the submission of artwork will end.  You can email me at  if you want to submit late.   If you don’t want to create a hello painting in your style, you can always join our 21 day Hello Challenge.

Do You Want To Meet Munich Artists?

I do.

Someone asked me if there were 500 artists in Munich.  I smiled at the question.  Of course there are 500 artists, there are thousands of artists hiding in the crevices of Munich corporations, institutions and private studios along with the 3k people registered as artists in the region and who have joined art groups and art associations.

The real question is whether 500 artists are willing to come together for an afternoon.  I’m hoping the answer is yes and I’m looking forward to seeing all the cool people who consider themselves artists living in Munich.

Our 500 artists say Hello event is the perfect opportunity for you to meet other artists living and working around Munich, Germany.  It will allow you to see their work and find artists who are creating art that resonates with you.  Maybe you will find someone to collaborate with on an art project or who will be a sounding board for your creative idea.

We encourage you to submit your own original artwork based on our open call for the 500 artists event. our open call for the 500 artists event.  If you do not have time, Munich Artists will post on the 11th of March a way for you to participate and be involved in a fun way.

Maximilian Lueckenhaus

Today, I wanted to share the artwork of Maximilian Lueckenhaus.  We shared a post over the weekend about the comic exhibition at the Oktoberfest museum and today we are sharing his artwork for our 500 Artists Say Hello Event.

Maximilian works as a creative director, has a family and creates art.  This is Maximilian’s chosen path and I would love for you to talk with him and share your path with him on April 23.

If you have questions about the open call, we created a FAQ post and have shared a few of the images from other artists.  If you still have questions, you are welcome to stop Frauenstrasse 18 between 1200 – 1500.

Meet with Munich Artists

I’m not nocturnal so if you would like to meet me, please feel free to visit me at Frauenstrasse 18 between 12 -1500.  I’m not always there so texting me is really optimal my mobile is +4915129111465.

Meet Munich Artists Risograph Machine

Penelope, a Munich artist told me she bought a Risograph and after doing some research, I decided a Risograph would be an interesting way for Munich Artists to create our coloring book series.  At this point, we only own a black drum which is perfect for creating coloring books and we are thinking about buying a few more colors so that we can print graphic and fine art books. (we have a publishers number and ISBNs to attach to books.)

If you know artists already creating Risograph artwork and books in Munich, please let us know who they are.  We would love to meet with them.

Reasons To Say Hello on April 23, 2016

_MG_1025sw4 x
Artist Anni Riek photo by Roland Schmid

Dear Munich Artists, here are a few reasons to join the 500 artists say Hello:

  1. You will get to meet Anni Riek who created a 30x30cm box with her artwork tucked inside!  See, you can put put your artwork in a box… just make sure I can hang it with gallery hooks and that everything is securely inside. We have liability insurance but your piece is NOT insured (if you want insurance, please insure it yourself.)
  2. You get a chance to show your work to 500 other artists and be part of an event that has everything to do with being an artist, being creative and talking with other creatives and seeing what they make.

We will be picking artists for specific projects including:

  1.  Munich Artists Book – We will pick 75 artists and you will be picking 25 for a total of 100 artists to be featured in the book.
  2. Munich Art Market (You must be actively selling and looking for clients/commissions and consider art something you could never live without as in, you would die if you did not make art. That is who we want on the Munich Art Market.
  3. Friday Gallery installations.   A few of you will get to hang out with me for 30 days as you create an installation based on an idea of mine or one of the curators I know.
    • Ideally one guy and one women or a collective of artists
    • Not sure? Ask Ines Seidel and Allun Turner how much fun they are having working together  on “The Talk” installation at my downtown space.
  4. ArtSeeTalk – We have been approached by curators who want to curate you. We will let them hunt for artists at the event and then help them get the exhibition off the ground. We will also let them talk about art stuff on (a domain we own.)

Those are some very good reasons to join us on April 23, 2016. If you need some more, I will think up some more reasons and give them to you next week.  Look forward to seeing your submissions.  Mail them to Re: Hello Event. If you forgot what the hello open call says, here is the link to the open call.

Devanney Claro is the 1st of our 500 Artists Say Hello

Look!  We have our first official Munich Artists entry for the 500 Artists Say Hello event. Because Devanney Claro was the first to submit his work, Devanney  gets to be used as an example of a correct entry for the event.

Below is Devanney’s Hello artwork, his self portrait photograph and his favourite art piece.   Devanney chose to create a monochromatic work because he loves to use colour and he wanted to challenge himself.    Devanny also sent me his word but I will save that for the event.

Devanney will be dropping his art piece and submission fee off at the Friday Gallery tomorrow so I will try and remember to take a photo before we begin chatting, drinking coffee and talking about his upcoming trip to Brazil.

Our second art piece is Jewellery art and it is in the mail on its way to Munich.  The artist lives in Saxony and will be at the event but doesn’t want to make the drive twice. I can understand that, I have a hard enough time driving out to Freising.

What?  An artist that isn’t a Minga. Of course. This is 500 Artists say Hello and as long as the artist is there on April 23, 2015 between 1400 and 1800, and, I don’t need to chase after them,  I’m ok with someone outside of Munich. I want you to meet 500 artists. I want you to have fun. I want you to share your talents.  I want to play with 500 pieces of art.

As you can see, you are welcome to drop off your artwork early at the Gallery but please email me before to make sure I am there and please email me the photos before dropping off the artwork and PLEASE follow the instructions and bring your money so that I have everything I need to make the booklet and the video installation.   Thank you!

Deutsch: Open Call 500 Artists Say Hello
