UPDATE: Einstein Kultur – October 16, 2016 – 1300 to 1800

ATTENTION:

On Sunday we are meeting at Einstein Kultur  Einsteinstrasse 42, Munich 81675 for our second 500 Artists event.

We are lucky to have the four halls of Einstein Kultur for the day to get together, meet, share stories, talents and some good food.

Here are the images of the space:

I chatted with Einstein yesterday and I will get the keys at 1300.

Food and Beverages

We can bring food, NO DRINKS.  Drinks will be for sale at the einstein Bar (including coffee.)  So, bring food/plates/utensils and some cash for drinks.

Munich Artists has arranged this space for you to hang out and develop creative friendhsips/collaborations and a playing cards sculpture.

Performances

  • Writers and word performers – we will have a microphone available in the first room where the brown seats are available.  We will have a video looping in this room between readings.
  • Musicians  –  We have two musicians scheduled to play.   If you want to play guitar or sing, we would love to have you come along.  The two musicians that we have are a jazz musician and a classical guitarrist and the room shown above with the piano is where we will have the speakers set up for their musical performances.
  • Light Artist – Elasse will be doing a light performance and will be doing light portraits at Einstein Kultur.  Either in room 1 or 3.
  • Card Sculpture – Room 3  is for our card sculpture.  We will be using small wooden clips and white cards to create sculpture.

Entrance

The deck of party cards must be purchased to enter the event.  The costs of a set of party cards is 15 Euro.  The price of the party cards (with a tin box) increases in price after this event (They will be 18 Euro MwSt when we put them into the stores and at Haeppy Art.)

There is no check room for valuables and we are not responsible for your stuff, so make sure you bring only what you need for the day.  We do have liablity insurance so if you stub your toe we are covered.

Why come visit us on Sunday?

The artists chosen for the Munich Artists Playing Cards were chosen from artists at our 500 Artists Say Hello Event.  we   We want to continue encouraging collaborations between artists in Munich.  You are welcome to come on Sunday and see if you can find artists for a creative collaboration. You will need to work with 3 other artists for 500 Artists Under Cover.

If you already have a group working on a project, you are welcome to come tell us about it and maybe your project can be added to our list.

2017 List of Events for 500 Artists

  • 500 Artists Draw Lines – January 2017 – This is a two day event where we will be creating a large abstract collage (200sqm)on day 1 and then on day 2 we will be contour drawing around the edges of the abstracted shapes.  When we are done, we will cut up the art piece into pieces and distribute them to the artists participating. (Cost = materials)
  • 500 Artists Say Hello March/April 2017 – This will be a one month exhibition of a cube sculpture where artists will submit a cube and we will make a sculpture out of their cubes.  (Cost = materials)
  • 500 Artists Under Cover  July 2017 – This will begin in April 2017.   Artists will be asked to work in groups of four (4) to create an art piece on an umbrella. The umbrellas will be printed and we will have a gathering under the umbrellas on July 1, 2017 and taking aerial photographs of the umbrellas.  We will select umbrellas designed by the artists to be in our trefubox store.
  • 500  Artists Tell Stories  October/November 2017 – we are publishing our first short story collection this year called Munich Stories.  Next year, we want to expand this to be a fine art book fair to run at the same time at literature fest so that artists can share their work with people who love books.

This is our first time crowdfunding and we are so excited that you have been helping us out.    To reach 100% we need to sell a few more card decks or have someone pick our 150 Euro package which still have one card proof left.

I have a few more artists bios to share with you.  As I mentioned on our Munich Artists Card page, some very generous Munich Artists participated in our projects and have together created a wonderful deck.  I want to thank each and every artist for their hard work creating our first Munich Artists deck.  This is a collaborative project and each artist of the artists below has helped to make the deck a reality.

Kickstarter Extra Treat – A Fifth King.

Important Links

The Story of the Fifth King.

During the creation of our playing card art, we had a tiny little issue and found ourselves without any KINGS.   With no time to find a new artist, we asked the Munich Artists involved to submit extra work and 4 artists volunteered to save the day.

A day before sending the work to the printer to get a proof, we were still missing a king. It was crazy – We needed a king and we did not want to be left empty handed if the missing king did not show up by the end of the day – It was a royal pain for the pair of Es (Elizabeth and Emmy).

With a printed image of King Ludwig II,  Munich Artists ran around shooting several different types of photos so that Elizabeth could select an image for the backup king. Elizabeth picked this photograph for our Fifth King and the deck was complete (just in case the missing file did not arrive.)

Mr. Ludwig waiting and waiting but never will he be a card in our deck.
Mr. Ludwig waiting and waiting but never will he be a card in our deck.

Right before the deadline, Ludwig II arrived in our mailbox and Elizabeth quickly inserted him into the deck to send to the printer.

The Orphan King

After seeing people donate a Euro to our Kickstarter (It was not a gift option.)  I decided that our kickstarter backers could adopt our extra king and make him feel at home on their smart phones or wherever the backer wanted to display the extra King of Spades.

In this King image, not only do you get a king, but you get penguins and a banana and who doesn’t like Penguins and bananas?

The file for this king will be available to all backers who donate to our kickstarter. A link will be sent to you at the end of our campaign.

Because this is my personal artwork, I, Emmy Horstkamp,  give you permission to use him for any personal use and would love if you share with me where you put his majesty.

FYI

Today we are at 71%  which is awesome!  Thank you! Thank you Munich Artists Supporters!

Please share our Kickstarter campaign with your friends and family.  The more backers we have, the closer we get to printing our deluxe cards and the more fun we will have on October 16th from 1300 to 1800 at Einstein Kultur. ( You must purchase a card deck to attend the art happening. Go purchase your cards through our kickstarter.)

Here is another image that I took of Ludwig (a gay king) which I thought was funny but did not send to Elizabeth.

Details of the happening:

You will have the opportunity to purchase 1 deck of Munich Artists playing cards and will be given one deck of blank white cards. The blank cards are to be used at the event.  You  can open your Munich Artists Playing Cards or keep them to gift away for Christmas.

Room 1 is for video streaming and watching performances.  There are bleachers to sit.

Hall/Room 1 at Einstein Kultur

Room 2 is for Playing Cards –  The room is completely empty of furniture.

Empty Hall/Room  at Einstein Kultur

In room 2 artists can participate in creating a large 3d sculpture using their blank cards OR they can take their blank cards and draw artwork on them. It is up to them.  If they want to draw artwork, please bring  markers (edding/promarkers)  We may be filming Room 2 with a Webcam to stream after the event.

The space has concrete floors. If you are going to be spending lots of time drawing, you will need to bring a pillow or chair/drawing board BUT you can also meander to room 3 and sit on a pillow.

Room3 is for singing on a small stage, reading stories to the people in the room, talking, eating, sitting on benches and drinking.   This is not a quiet room. If you decide to read a story out loud in here, you better have a good stage presence to get people’s attention.  If you want to do a monologue, we can schedule it for room 1.

Food and drinks will be located in room 3 OR in the lobby.  There is a bar in the lobby.

Lobby at Einstein Kultur

We will have access to the main lobby and the bathrooms.  The video loop of our 500 Artists Say Hello will be in the lobby and will be displayed during Kunst in Sendling. (the week before.)

Collaborations:

Room 1 – Video Room  This room has bleachers.  I will create a video using video clips from artists who send a video clip to me.  The video will be entitled  “How to play with cards.”  The video you send does not have to be card related.   You can put the video clip in my dropbox for this project. Deadline for video clip submissions to be included is October 1, 2016.  Please submit a clip 30 seconds or less.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jn4b84pl3lt0v2v/AABR7TOaI-xRqgruAa9SAEHFa?dl=0

If you want to do a reading or monologue in Room 1 we can schedule it. Please let me know in advance so that I can create some kind of background in the loop for the time that you are doing your thing.

Room 2 – Playing Cards Room  We will have lots of space to create. This is a big empty hall. If you have something you want to create with playing cards, please let me know. You can create sculptures made from blank playing cards and bring them to show.  I will have the cards before the event and will be happy to have you pick them up at Frauenstrasse 18. Playing Cards will be picked up at the event.

If you want to make a short video, you also have the opportunity to do this in Room 2.

Room 3 – Food Room – Everyone gathers where there is food.  This room has low benches with cushions. It is really comfy and a great place to hang out.  This space has a small stage which can be used for flash fiction reading.  I will ask the artists working on munichstories.com if they will read one of their stories that they have created during the challenge month (September 12 – October 15th)

If you want to sing or dance or perform, please let me know and we will work something out.

If you are a conceptual artist and you want to create something interacting with the card sculptures and the space, please let me know.

Unlike 500 Artists Say Hello, we don’t have an installation display on a wall BUT the walls are concrete so you are welcome to bring an A4 print of your artwork that we can tape onto the wall.  This will be an organic display. I will not curate it.  You are artists. I know you will make it look good. ( I need to double check that we can tape things on the wall.)

Artsy Things To do on July 2nd, 2016

I will be traveling around Munich tomorrow attending some events and wanted to share what is on my Facebook event feed with you.  Please remember that if you have an event and you send me an invitation on Facebook, I will add the event to our Munich Artists event list.  The event must be on Facebook and must be public. If you don’t do those things, I will not be able to share and that is always a sad thing.

The photo above is a photo of the Container collective.  This will be a creative spot over by Ostbahnhof where we hope to visit many creative people and see many creative things. Now, the events for tomorrow.

This weekend I will be going to:

Saturday July 2, 2016

12919763_1052841794775885_5306866460497992341_n

Pop Up 2/ Open art Riemerling – Petra Amstberg Hoffman is the owner and organizer of this space and on Saturday from 1500 to 2200, she will be having an exhibition of atwork from artists who attended the summer academy in Salzburg together.  For the artists involved it is a reunion and for Munich, it is an opportunity to meet Norbert Bisky and Markus Proschek.  If you plan on going, go by car.

(From Petra’s space, I will be heading to the open Studios at Oberfoehringerstr.  I don’t have a Facebook event for this to share, but I will share some photos next week of the artists who allow me to share their work.)

KHBi3 – I live in Sendling so I’m always happy when events are close to home!  The KloHaeuschen will be having their 3rd Biennal on Saturday. It starts at 2000. Go the bathroom before you go, there are no functioning toilets for you to use just art and creative people and some beer.

Sunday July 3, 2016

Odeonsplatz Window – Kult is organizing street artists to create an installation at the window at Odeonsplatz.  If you want to watch them do their magic or, ask them questions, they will be there from 1200 to 1600.  This is your chance to meet the creators of the Neuperlach Zoo and to spot a street artist.   I will be there some of that time and look forward to seeing their work!

NOTE FOR MUNICH ARTISTS:

My True Self – July 10th we are filming at Odeonsplatz.  I will be making a special post for this tomorrow.  We will be meeting at Odeonsplatz for the filming and I look forward to seeing everyone’s Masks.  2 masks made by you.  One white and one whatever the heck you are willing to put on your face that represents your true self.  More information can be found on our open call for the my true self project.  If you have not made your mask, July 2nd is a good time to make one or two.

Inspired by art book – Brigitte Pruchnow – Artists participating in this first book should be sending me their image files to emmy@kyfio.com. Please remember that the artwork must be 2 Lateral A4s. If your work is not the right size it will be cropped. There are no white spaces.  I will be sending you all a reminder email in a few days. If you don’t have a scanner, you can bring it to Frauenstrasse and we will scan the work.  This is by appointment only I love you all but I’m not around Frauenstrasse at any specific time during the summer.

500 Artists Play Cards – We will be starting a kickstarter for this project to fund our event in November 2016.  Our goal is to have 500 people playing cards.  I hope you will join us and support our Kickstarter campaign. I’m working on the video now and we will launch the Kickstarter next week.  Artists involved in this project, please send Elizabeth Hughes your artwork ASAP.  We have a printer selected and we want to send the work to the printers. The event is schedule for November 19th.  I’m still looking for a space for us to have this fun event.  If you have a space, you think will work, let me know! Must be int eh city. Must hold 300 to 500 people.

Mingaland –  I’m sorry.  My mother hand a massive stroke and this art project was the one that was not started and therefore shelved for a few weeks.  I will let you know when we are ready to launch.  Hopefully by August 1st.

Lifelines – This is a new project that I am starting this month.  I am finishing the first one now.

Munich Artists Project Update June 2016

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Toot. Toot. Toot my own  horn.

I own munichartists.com and spend lots of time writing about other artists but I’m also Emmy Horstkamp, the artist.  Keeping my distance and not making Munich Artists my own personal PA system is important but so is sharing my artwork and making sure the artists who work with me don’t get overlooked as I try to walk that tightrope between Munich Artists the group and Emmy Horstkamp the Munich Artist developing the Munich Artists Brand.

This year,  you will be seeing my name on lots of posts along with Munich Artists who are collaborating with me on different art projects including:

The Odeonsplatz Window Installations

My True Self,

500 Artists Play Cards

Inspired art book

Now, let me give you a tiny update about the projects before the posts in the next few weeks.

My True Self Installation Event

My True Self is a collaborative installation between myself and a group of Munich Artists. On July 10th, we will be filming Munich Artists wearing their masks  at the Odeonsplatz Subway. If you are a Munich Artist who is participating, please let me know. I will be making a specific post about this project next week.  If you want to be involved, make two masks as explained in the open call!

500 Artists Play Cards

Elizabeth Hughes is the project manager for the card creation and I’m one of the artists and managing the 500 Artists Play Cards event on November 19, 2016.

14 Munich Artists have been chosen and are creating a playing card deck which will be printed and then used during the event on November 19, 2016.   We ask you to reserve the date November 19, 2016 to be in Munich, Germany for this event.  (We are still looking for a location that can hold 500 Artists sitting down to play cards.)

The cost of this event depends on the location. If we need to take this into a hotel setting, the cost will be 150 Euro per seat (expensive option) If we use a public cafeteria, the event will cost 60 Euro and include a set of cards.  More information will be posted in two weeks as we get ready our Kickstarter campaign. The more funds we raise, the more options we will have for event locations.

Inspired Art Book

Brigitte Pruchnow wanted to create a sketchbook that traveled between artists. The artists would draw an art piece based on the art piece on the page before theirs.  I really liked this idea but managing the project would have taken two years so I altered the idea and now, 28 artists have been chosen to create artwork based on a Brigitte Pruchnow’s first art piece.

The book will be an A4 and will be published later this year.  The book will cost 50 Euro or less depending on how many orders we receive.  If you would like a copy of this book we will be sharing a few images and taking pre-orders later this summer. I will post the list of artists next week so you know who is involved and how many books you need to buy.  We may do a kickstarter campaign for this project so that we can have an exhibition of the original works.

Installation: Leave Me Alone? Emmy Horstkamp Installation

You have five more days to see  the first Munich Artists Summer Window Installation at Odeonsplatz.  The installation vacates the window on Sunday/Monday for the next Munich Artists Window Installation called Absolute Truth by Michaela Wuehr and Emmy Horstkamp.

The current installation was created by me, Emmy Hostkamp,  and is based on a story called “On Death” by Diana Radovan.

I created the installation and then experienced a near death situation with my mother which made writing about planning for your death and not being a burden a little too much like realty.   Neither one of my parents were planners and to create the artwork, I dug into my relationship with my own father and then, after it was installed, experienced my mother’s unexpected health crisis.

I’m feeling a little bit like I’m in some kind of twilight zone where the expectations of a Colombian/German child to take care of her parent are in conflict with her personal feelings.  I’ve followed my social/cultural obligation just like the daughter in the story and now, this piece resonates even stronger with me than it did before I created it.

The installation has two video components which have not been shared on the website but you can see them in this photo.

13329813_1037259512995862_2124875284_n

If you would like to read more about the installation, you can read about it on the Will God Leave Me Alone installation page.
