THEME –  Munich Artists/500 Artists Say Hello is a way for you to introduce yourself to me and to the other artists in Munich.  I want this box and that is the only limit I am putting on you.  Do not use the world hello.  I want this artwork to represent your artwork and style and personal self.

All boxes will be photographed and put on the website and also in a book.  If we get the right kind of space, I will make an installation from the boxes.  If no appropriate space can be found for an installation, I will turn Frauenstrasse 18 into an exhibition room to show off the boxes During May and June.   For this exhibition, I will empty out most of Frauenstrasse to give us room to show the boxes (Very exciting.)

The art ads will be linked to ads on the website.   I will be creating a separate post about the Munich Artists Look book and ads and how we are going to move art news for Munich Artists to a news blog.

NOTE II:   This blog post will be translated into German and will be on the website as soon as Holger translates it into German.

NOTE III:  I will not mail artwork back to you. I will keep the artwork for 1 year. After the year, I will donate any artwork not picked up to charity.  If you would like to participate, please keep this in mind.  I still have artwork from 2016.

500 Artists Say Hello Installation Artwork 2016

We celebrated our first 500 Artists Say Hello event on Saturday April 23, 2016 and are proud to share with you the installation artwork displayed at Quiddestr. 45.  Thank you to all the artists, family, friends and supporters who attended our gathering yesterday and thank you to Art in Motion and Paata (Nino Khundadze’s husband) for performing during the afternoon event.

We will be organising another 500 artists evening event on November 19th to celebrate the creation of our artists playing cards…so save the date!

If you would like to see the installation, the location will be open on Wed, Thurs. & Friday of this week from 1500 to 1900.  If you would like our Hello 2016 booklet, you can email me at Emmy @kyfio.com. The booklets is 10 Euro.

Artsy Things to Do – April 18 – May 19, 2016

It’s been awhile since I’ve told you what to do. Did you miss that? If you did, you will like this post about the artsy events happening in the next month.

  • 500 Artists Say Hello event.
    • April 23rd, 2016 from 1400 to 1800.
    • Quiddestr. 45 Neuperlach (they say it is like Munich’s Brooklyn. We are going there because the space was cheap and near an subway stop. I think Sendling is Munich’s Brooklyn but Sendling is no longer cheap… just like Brooklyn.)
    • More than 600 people say that they are Munich Artists and I wanted to see them. I’ve organized a time and a place and artists are bringing food and their artsy selves, their dance shoes and some guitars.  We are also:
      • Focus on talking, brainstorming, sharing and getting to know more Munich Artists.
      • Showing an art installation of Hello artwork.
      • Picking artists to work on the playing cards that will be used for the 500 Artists Play cards scheduled for November 19th.
      • Picking artists for Brigitte Pruchnow’s artbook project – We will be creating artwork based on an art piece she created. Her art piece will be the cover of the book. This is a first in a series.. if this works out.
      • Signing up artists for our Risograph book project. We are printing limited edition art books using a risograph with limited colors (I only have black, blue, red & Purple.)
      •  Application for Munich Art Market. We will accept applications only at our 500 Artist events. The Munich Art Market is curated marketplace. (30 Euro application fee.)
      • Formal membership cards for Munich Artists (membership 20 euro fee)
      • Voting for artists to be featured on the website during the rest of 2016.
      • Brainstorm projects and signup to work on projects scheduled for this year.
  • Deadline Urban Art Festival

12930999_1703744199887299_8374681409137666773_n

  • April 28 – April 30th
  • Tumblingerstr. 29, 80337 Munich

This is near my house so I will be there but if you live in another area of town, plan to visit Tumblingerstr. and enjoy the new street art created during the festival.   The event starts this weekend so head over there after the 500 Artists Say Hello  for the evening party.  It would be fun to take hundreds of artists from one end of Munich to the other. Shall we do that?

Here are the hours:

Monday – Thursday 16:00-23:00 Uhr
Friday 16:00-00:00 Uhr
Saturday 23.04.2016 16:00-00:00 Uhr
Saturday 30.04.2016 11:00-00:00 Uhr
Sunday  13:00-21:00 Uhr

There is a free concert, a beer garden, free children’s program and crafts fun.  Street art is for everyone so go enjoy yourself and take your kids.

  • Stroke Art Fair

12998432_10154065109741092_6575587417533982849_o

We all love Stroke. It used to be all street art and design but now it is a mix of contemporary, street art and design.  There are lots of Munich Artists showing their work at Stroke and I promise to share their work with you after I attend the press tour.

Did you have a whopping big event that I didn’t post here?

We post art events on our Facebook page in the events section. If you have an exhibition you want people to know about, send me a Facebook invitation to a public event and I will add it to the page.  I can’t add private events and I don’t always have time to transfer invitations sent to to me by email or snail mail.

If you are organizing a big whopping event let me know. I like knowing those kinds of things and sharing if it is art related.

Pizza Delivery by Michaela Wuehr? What’s in the Box?

While I worked on the booklet for our 500 Artists Say Hello event,  Michaela Wuehr knocked on my door and walked in with a pizza.

“Pizza!  I love pizza but I thought you wanted to go have a juice?” I said jumping up to grab a piece of “Buena Pizza!”

Pizza delivery by Michaela Wuehr

“No, Emmy. There is no pizza.”

No Pizza? Lunchtime hunger clouded my eyes.  I looked suspiciously at Michaela as she smiled and lifted the lid. The smell of oil paint hit my nostrils.

“Art!”

IMG_9084
oh! It’s a 500 Artists Say Hello art piece!

500 Artists Say Hello art by Michaela Wuehr.  The above piece was still wet and Michaela wanted to make sure the piece stayed safe as she made her way from her studio in Maxvorstadt to my space at Frauenstrasse.

I love it!  The packaging was so urban just like the NYC scene depicted in the art piece. They belong together. I promise, if you buy her piece, you can take home the pizza box.

I told Michaela she needed to incorporate pizza boxes into her marketing plan cause I loved getting her art piece in a pizza box.

Michaela also had a cool idea where she would say the box was her piece and that orange was blue and green was black – mix it up a bit. I love that idea but I am really happy she decided to make an oil painting for our event.

Hopefully I will have a surprise for you tomorrow/Wed. Please feel encouraged to find fun ways to surprise Munich Artists. We enjoy positive surprises especially when we are stuck on the computer working all day.

Event Update for 500 Artists Say HEllO

Hello Munich Artists!

Here is the scoop.

  • Our event is April 23, 2016 from 1400 to 1800 (Middle of the day after you finish your errands and before you head out for your evening activities.)
  • People want to eat so they are bringing food to share.  Bring food to share and napkins and plates and utensils, better to have more than not enough.
  • We have more than 100 artists who have agreed to share artwork for our “500 Artists Say Hello” event so I will be working with more than 100 art pieces for the installation at Quiddestr. 45.
  • Most of the artwork for the installation has arrived downtown.  (Hurray! Only a few stragglers who will be bringing pieces this weekend.)
  • More than 620 people consider themselves Munich Artists.
  • We registered more than 100 artists for the Munich Art Market.
  • If you want to be considered for the Munich Art Market and you are not showing artwork in the installation, you must register at the event. The registration fee is 20 Euro. Registration/application does not guarantee we will accept your work for sale.
  • We want to start looking for group discounts.  To do this, I need to create a database of Munich Artists members.  I want to see if we can get discounts at art stores and those specialty stores I’m hunting down.   To do this, I will be making a Munich Artists ID card. (snazzy) It will be good for one year.   All artists registered for the 500 artists event will get a card on April 23. All other artists/supporters must apply for the card and the fee for the card will be 30 Euro to cover admin costs of creating a discount/membership card.
  • You don’t have to attend the event or be an artist to be a member of Munich Artists. We will have cards for artists and art supporters.  You will need to pay 30 Euro and fill in the application form which will be posted after the event (we will have forms at the event for you to fill in if you come and hang out with us on April 23rd.)
  • I’m working on the booklet this week. I decided to print it using a printer and asked Roy Hessing to let us use the photograph below. I just finished the forward and will be populating the pages with your images and words.  I will be sending it to the printer on Monday.

munich-artists-hello-roy-hessing-photograph

  • We will be printing some shirts. We will be posting the options next week for Pre-order.  If you have a favourite print shop for shirts please let me know. I want thick cotton and a Vneck shirt option cause I’m a girl. We will only print by demand/order for the event.
  • If you want to “project manage” T-shirts, please let me know.  We will be offering the T-shirts as part of our product line to fund Munich Artists projects so we need to be able to make a bit of profit from the shirts.

ATTENTION:

  • I need a volunteer to manage the registration table, the food table, the application table and cleanup.

Hazel Ang and Allun Turner Say Hello

I did not realise how complicated life could get when you have a company named Kyfio UG but a website named Munichartists.com.  Hazel did the proper thing sending her artwork to Munich Artists but there is no legal entity for Munich Artists just the website and the the post office would not give me the package even though my name is on a business card with Munich Artists.  I needed a rubber stamp.  After creating a rubber stamp from a stamp kit, I stamped the pickup form with “Munich Artists ” and they gave me the package saving it from a return journey to America.   I opened the package and had a great blue surprise from Hazel Ang.

Then, Allun Turner walked in with his piece…

img_7341

So many wonderful artists and artwork came into the studio today.  I feel really lucky to get to meet new artists and have artists I know join in on the fun.  I’m Looking forward to seeing more of your art pieces coming my way and filling the second studio table with your creations!

Munich Art Market – Curated Art & Design

Munich Art Market

One of the benefits of attending the 500 artists Say Hello event is registering for the Munich Art Market.

After 3 years of motivating artists and creatives in Munich, Kyfio UG is ready to launch the Munich Art Market as an e-commerce site.

The Munich Art Market will be curated and focused on fine art & design products from Bavaria Germany (and our neighbours closeby.)

Each artist will have the opportunity to present their artwork/product lines and explain their concepts.

What are we looking for in products? We are looking for artwork and design that say:

  • European
  • German
  • Bavarian
  • Minga
  • Hey! I’m unique… as in you don’t fit in the above categories but you are so cool  I’m lucky that you live in my city. (In a modest way of course.)
  • Urban ( I love urban and street art).
  • Munich without shouting Munich at me. Your artwork/design can shout Munich but I also need artwork that shouts just you and not the city. We need both cause some people like wearing Munich on their sleeve and others just want Munich in their hearts.

Selected products will be showcased at our space downtown and people will be encouraged to reserve pieces online and pick them up in person.

The application fee for artists and designers will be 20 Euro. The artwork and design items for sale will be Curated by Dr. Emmy Horstkamp, Founder of Munich Artists. If you like our Munich Artists site, you will be happy with Munich Art Market site/store.

The application fee for the website is 20 Euro. Each artist who participates in the 500 Artists event will be submitted for review.  Artists without work on the walls of the event are encouraged to come on April 23, 2016 and register for the Munich Art Market.

Registration for the website will only happen during a 500 artists say Hello event.  We will not accept applications outside of the event.  No exceptions.

Being accepted to the Munich Art Market is a non exclusive representation by the website. We encourage you to continue selling your work around town but ask that your work presented to Munich Art Market not be sold in another location downtown.  (sell other designs not the ones you give us to sell.)

We may offer licensing arrangements for art/design that we think would be great as a Munich Artists product.   All  other work presented in the Market will be offered on a commission basis which means you bring it to us, we sell it and take a commission from the price.  Prices for your products will be discussed during your portfolio review so that the commission doesn’t hurt so much.

Summary:

  1. Munich Art Market is for Artists living and working in Germany and neighbouring regions.
  2. Registration fee is 20 Euro.
  3. Registration occurs only in person and only during 500 artists say hello event(s).
  4. Curated. artists will be added to a database but only selected works will be chosen for the Munich Art Market website and for display in our space.
  5. Admission to the market is for 1 year.
  6. Artists can sell work everywhere else. This is a non-exclusive representation of the artist.  Artwork representation will be dependant on the art.  (Yes, we will agent an art piece for licensing.)
  7. We will be offering consulting services to collectors wanting artwork from Germany.

FAQ for 500 Artists Say Hello Event

Hello Everyone!  Here is a reminder of our open call:

Deutsch:

English:

Here are some questions people have asked me:

Q: How big can I make my art piece?

A:  30cm x 30cm framed.

Q: What colors can I use?

A: Any Shade of Blue, Black, White

Q: Does my artwork need to be framed? No. You do not have to frame your artwork BUT I must be able to hang it on a a gallery hook.  I cannot use nails.  Please make sure it is ready to hang using a gallery system like the one shown in the photo below.

hanger05

Q: Why do I have to be there on April 23, 2016?

A: The purpose of the 500 artist event is:

  • To meet other Munich Artists
  • To see artwork of other Munich Artists and pick artist you want to work with on collaborations.
  • To allow curators to see your work.
  • To Allow our project managers to see your artwork.
  • To show us you are interested in larger projects in the future. (Like a 500 artist exhibition where you exhibit art for sale.
  • To have the opportunity to be added to the Munich Art Market.

Q: Does my artwork have to use the word Hello?  A: No.  Your artwork does not have to say Hello. It must be an art piece that represents hello for you.  For example, my art piece is a photograph of rain.  I welcome rain and as a street photographer, rain says “Hello Emmy come out and take some cool photos.”

Q: Does my self portrait have to be a passport type photo?  A: I would prefer a passport photo/cv photo so people can find you at the event. If you are artistic with the photo I will still use it but people may not recognize you.

Q: Do I need to live in Munich?  A: No. Munich Artists is a fluid group of artists. I don’t care where you live as long as you are in Munich on April 23, 2016, follow all the rules for this event and are willing to be in Munich for whatever projects we plan for the next year.

Q: Do I need to be a professional artist?  A: You need to accept “artist” as your identity. If you work in another occupation to pay your bills, I will not hold that against you.

Q: Can I suggest an Idea for Munich Artists to develop? A:  We will have an idea box at the event.  You are welcome to submit an art idea with your name and contact details. We currently have ideas we are developing for 2016. I prefer to know the artist and have them manage the project they propose so, if you drop an idea in the jar, you better be prepared to meet me, manage the project you suggest and work hard to see it realised (help raise the money for the idea and build the team.)

Q: Will there be a catalogue for the event?  A: Yes. I am making an art book for this event. It will be black and white and maybe blue. It will be artsy. Each of you will get one copy and if you want, you will be able to buy more (If you like it.) It will have an ISBN number because Munich Artists has a publisher’s number. If you want to work on this book, you can let me know.

Q: Where do I drop off my art?  A: Frauenstrasse 18 at Munich Artists/Friday Gallery between 900 and 1500. The doorbell says Kyfio UG. You must walk through the green doors and into the courtyard. The Munich Artists name is written on the door in pink pen.

I will post on our Facebook pages the hours each week just in case I have to be away for a meeting.  You can email me and let me know you plan on visiting.  I will be at the gallery on Saturdays from 1300 to 1600.

Q: Where and When do we meet on April 23, 2016? A: Quiddestrasse 45, 81375

Between  1400 – 1800.  The location has the name Kunsttreff Quiddezentrum. Very easy to get to by car and public transportation.

Q: Why Quiddezentrum? A: Because it was cheap, big and available.  We are creating an event not an exhibition.  This event is for artists to meet artists. We can all get there for 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon and get home in time to hang out with our friends and family.

Q: Why is there a fee? A:To cover the costs of printing the book and organizing the event (room rental, person sitting in space, admin costs, gallery hooks)

Q Will there be food? A: There will be no food. If you need something to drink or eat, please bring something with you. (a picnic basket is a good idea.)

Q: How long will the artwork be showing?  About a week.  We have hired someone to be at the center while it is open Thursday through Sunday.  Because of the May 1st holiday, we will take the work down over the May 1st weekend.

Q: What do accepted artists need to bring with them on April 23rd?

A:

  • Yourself.
  • A friend.
  • Food and Drink.
  • Business cards.
  • Digital Portfolio  (optional).
  • Camera (optional).
  • A pen to write notes.
  • Sense of Humour

Q: What is the Munich Art Market? A curated showcase to sell artwork and related services and whatever else seems to work under the name Munich Art Market. (We are flexible if you are.)

Reasons To Say Hello on April 23, 2016

_MG_1025sw4 x
Artist Anni Riek photo by Roland Schmid

Dear Munich Artists, here are a few reasons to join the 500 artists say Hello:

  1. You will get to meet Anni Riek who created a 30x30cm box with her artwork tucked inside!  See, you can put put your artwork in a box… just make sure I can hang it with gallery hooks and that everything is securely inside. We have liability insurance but your piece is NOT insured (if you want insurance, please insure it yourself.)
  2. You get a chance to show your work to 500 other artists and be part of an event that has everything to do with being an artist, being creative and talking with other creatives and seeing what they make.

We will be picking artists for specific projects including:

  1.  Munich Artists Book – We will pick 75 artists and you will be picking 25 for a total of 100 artists to be featured in the book.
  2. Munich Art Market (You must be actively selling and looking for clients/commissions and consider art something you could never live without as in, you would die if you did not make art. That is who we want on the Munich Art Market.
  3. Friday Gallery installations.   A few of you will get to hang out with me for 30 days as you create an installation based on an idea of mine or one of the curators I know.
    • Ideally one guy and one women or a collective of artists
    • Not sure? Ask Ines Seidel and Allun Turner how much fun they are having working together  on “The Talk” installation at my downtown space.
  4. ArtSeeTalk – We have been approached by curators who want to curate you. We will let them hunt for artists at the event and then help them get the exhibition off the ground. We will also let them talk about art stuff on Artseetalk.com (a domain we own.)

Those are some very good reasons to join us on April 23, 2016. If you need some more, I will think up some more reasons and give them to you next week.  Look forward to seeing your submissions.  Mail them to Emmy@kyfio.com Re: Hello Event. If you forgot what the hello open call says, here is the link to the open call.

Devanney Claro is the 1st of our 500 Artists Say Hello

Look!  We have our first official Munich Artists entry for the 500 Artists Say Hello event. Because Devanney Claro was the first to submit his work, Devanney  gets to be used as an example of a correct entry for the event.

Below is Devanney’s Hello artwork, his self portrait photograph and his favourite art piece.   Devanney chose to create a monochromatic work because he loves to use colour and he wanted to challenge himself.    Devanny also sent me his word but I will save that for the event.

Devanney will be dropping his art piece and submission fee off at the Friday Gallery tomorrow so I will try and remember to take a photo before we begin chatting, drinking coffee and talking about his upcoming trip to Brazil.

Our second art piece is Jewellery art and it is in the mail on its way to Munich.  The artist lives in Saxony and will be at the event but doesn’t want to make the drive twice. I can understand that, I have a hard enough time driving out to Freising.

What?  An artist that isn’t a Minga. Of course. This is 500 Artists say Hello and as long as the artist is there on April 23, 2015 between 1400 and 1800, and, I don’t need to chase after them,  I’m ok with someone outside of Munich. I want you to meet 500 artists. I want you to have fun. I want you to share your talents.  I want to play with 500 pieces of art.

As you can see, you are welcome to drop off your artwork early at the Gallery but please email me before to make sure I am there and please email me the photos before dropping off the artwork and PLEASE follow the instructions and bring your money so that I have everything I need to make the booklet and the video installation.   Thank you!

Open Call: 500 Artists Say Hello

German Version of Open Call

500 Artists Say Hello

Hi my name is Emmy Horstkamp and I’m the founder of the Munich Artists Group.

In 2013, I decided to create Munich Artists so that I could meet more artists who wanted to collaborate on projects and have fun being artists, while building a serious art practice and developing a unique artistic voice.   Over the years, I’ve worked to find ways to connect with fellow artists and celebrate their art creation in motivational and community building ways. This year we are having 500 artists say hello.

Save the Dates:

  • April 22 – May 2nd Exhibition
  • April 23rd Munich Artists Event from 1400 to 1800

Open Call: 500 artists say “Hello”

About

As the name suggests, “500 artists say Hello,” will show 500 participating artists. The selected artists will be featured on the Munich Art market website for the whole year 2016 and beginning of 2017.  This opportunity will facilitate artists to connect and be visible within the city structure.

The directory will only be open to artists who attend the event so admittance to this directory will happen once a year. I will have forms for you to fill out at the exhibition event.  Only these forms will be accepted for the art market website.  Munich Artists will add photos of your work we photograph throughout the year to this site.  The cost is 20 Euro.

Here is how the “500 artists say hello” art event will work:

All artists will create an art piece 30cm x 30cm which says hello in your art style. It can be a photograph, painting, sculpture, ceramics, video, art jewellery, flash fiction etc.  The art piece will be blue, shades of blue or monochrome (black and white).  I will not accept pieces with other colours.  Your piece must be mostly blue. You may use black, gray & white as the neutrals.  The colour blues you use is up to you.

Your art piece can use the words “Hello” in any language and in any medium or symbol that says hello for you personally or abstract that is entitled Hello. It can be sculpture, ceramic or video but please keep in mind that the space we will not insure your at piece. If you use a video screen it must be photo frame size. (I have four at the studio we can use.)

The 500 art pieces will be used as part of an installation. If someone asks to show the installation again, you must allow us to use your art piece in the installation.

How to apply

  • Two 300 DPI images of your original artwork:
    •  1 of your hello art piece
    • 1 of your favourite art piece.
  • A photo self portrait – Front view so people can see your face please like driver’s license or a profile photo. (for the video so people can see you. If you are unsure, look at my Mingapill portrait I used in the video. (It was shot with my ipone.)

The cost:  20 Euro per artist paid at the time the artist brings their artwork to the gallery.

PS.  I have the Odeonsplatz window again in July and will be creating a video installation using your artwork photos, words and self portraits.  Because it will visible to many people I want to make sure you pick:
