14 Day Quote Challenge Begins November 16, 2016 (WED)

Here are the quotes/Inspirations for the next 14 day Munich Artists Challenge. I altered them from quotes or took very standardized quotes. you are welcome to make them better but please do not use other people’s words without giving them credit in your artwork.

For this challenge, please incorporate the words into your artwork. I want to see the words in the art.  I will select a few to post on Instagram so make sure you have an Instagram account that I can refer to on our social media channels.

If you would like to share your work with us on Facebook, please join our Facebook Challenge group.

As with all my challenges, there are no rules. Do what makes you happy. I just want you creating so show me what you create using quotes.  The more creative you are, the happier I am.

KICKSTARTER SKETCHBOOK BOX

We will be starting a Kickstarter for a Munich Artists Sketchbook Box as soon as the box sample arrives. It has not arrived and I want to make sure I love it before we start a kickstarter for it.

Munich Artists Sketch Book Project 2017

I forgot this project on our project list and will add it today!

We enjoyed the sketchbook project  so much this year that we will be doing it again in 2017 EXCEPT that we will keep the original in our Munich Artists Space and share it online on the Munich Artists Website.

Because we do not have to ship it to the US, we are going to be using a 21 x 21  Hardcover sketchbook for the group sketchbook with thicker paper to avoid bleedthrough.

This year, the Munich Artists sketchbook project has two parts.

PART I – Group Sketchbook

We will be doing exactly like last year. I will have a sketchbook at Frauenstrasse 18 and you will be welcome to come to the studio and do a sketch in the sketchbook during the whole year of 2017.

I will be at the Frauenstrasse by appointment and since we will have trefubox.co working out of the space, I will be at Frauenstrasse on Fridays from 1000 to 1600 (Except for Holidays) and Saturdays from 1300 to 1600.

PART II – NEW!  Individual Sketchbooks

We will be doing individual sketchbooks based on our Munich Artists Challenges.  For 2017, I will be doing a 365 Day Munich Artists Challenge. If you have been doing any challenges so far, you know that they are fun and we share our work on Facebook .  The sketchbooks will be ordered next week and will be for sale the third week in November 2016.

You are welcome to join the sketchbook challenge for the 7, 14, 30 day  challenges or for the full 365 day challenge.

The Sketchbooks will fit in an A5 box that we are ordering.  I will post the box when it arrives. I will post the book when it arrives. All products will be for sale through Munich Artist’s Trefubox.co and our Amazon store.

21 Day Hello Art Challenge Has Begun

The theme for this challenge is Hello, Beginnings and Welcome.  We have a Page for this art challenge and we will be sharing our images on Facebook in the Munich Artists group and our BCA Munich Artists Challenge group.

The purpose of the Munich Artists challenges are to provide inspiration and add a bit of fun to our days. This means that Munich Artists wants you to use the list as a guide.  If you get inspired and go in a different direction not directly related to hello, we don’t care.  In fact, if you do the complete opposite of each topic each day, we will applaud your refusal to conform and your creativity at taking the topics and flipping them into the deep and dark recesses of your brain.  If you do either of those things, you will need to explain a bit so that your fellow artists can understand what you are doing but so far, everyone seems to find it cool when an artist goes off tangent.

For the next 21 day,  I’m encouraging you not to plan so much because planning too much drags you down into an area where fun has a hard time surviving. Munich Artists believes it is possible to be professional and have fun at the same time.

The daily topics for this challenge are:

  • Day 1 – A beginning
  • Day 2 – Boxes representing the beginning of something.
  • Day 3 – Welcome Home
  • Day 4 – Welcome the day
  • Day 5- Welcome the night
  • Day 6 – Hello kiss/hug/handshake
  • Day 7 – Beginning of a book/newspaper/magazine
  • Day 8 – Beginning of a relationship
  • Day 9 – Beginning of a meal
  • Day 10 – Hello to a stranger
  • Day 11 – Hello to myself
  • Day 12 – Space to begin something new
  • Day 13 – Welcome to my mind/brain/soul
  • Day 14 – Beginning of the end
  • Day 15 – Beginning Line. (text, visual art, idea, etc.)
  • Day 16 – Words that are Welcoming.
  • Day 17 – Time for Hello
  • Day 18 – olleH, emoclew – words in reverse.
  • Day 19   Hello Work
  • Day 20  Beginning of the blue hour.
  • Day 21  Say Goodbye to Hello.

Because our website changed format a bit, we will be talking about the challenge on Facebook and Instagram and will be referring back to the challenge page instead of daily challenge posts so that the visual front of our website isn’t overwhelmed by challenge posts.

The challenge began two days ago so you still have time to catch up. As always, we will be happy if you participate and there are no bad feelings if you can’t do all 21 days. Do as much as you want and share your work with us on Facebook. I create a photograph each day and I look forward to seeing what you decide to create.

The 21 day Hello challenge is a great opportunity for you to create an art piece for our 500 artists Say Hello Event. If you are interested in joining our event, please let me know by emailing  emmy@kyfio.com. If you don’t know about our April 23, 2016 500 artists say Hello event, please read the open call page.

Green is the Thing on Day 3 Munich Artists Colour Challenge

IMG_4151
Munich Artists 14 Day Colour Challenge

The words for today are Lucky, healthy or jealous, bad…. or, whatever you want because we want you to play with green not get stuck trying to fit green into a word.  I picked the following Green videos to inspire you on day 3.

If you are getting into the swing of the challenge, don’t forget to share your colour image on our Facebook challenge page or in our Munich Artists Facebook group.  If you want to plan for the next 11 days, you can find the colours and associated words on our Challenge page.

Remember, you can use any medium for the colour challenge.  The goal is to finish 14 pieces of artwork that have meaning to you and when you share them, you can say, this piece is entitled “Green…” and it is infused with the energy I felt as I contemplated the word luck/health/jealousy.   I’m using the colour challenge to play with words on my photographs and maybe doodling like on day 1.

Remember, we do splaining posts and if you want to “splain” your 14 day challenge you can let me know by emailing me at emmy@kyfio.com

Have fun with Green.

Our Next 14 Day Challenge Starts January 18th

Back to work!

Today we sat down and created the 14 Day Munich artists challenge page focused on color and its symbolism.

Starting on Monday January 18th, we will be sharing with you artwork focused on the following Colours:

  • Blue
  • Black
  • Green
  • Orange
  • Purple
  • Red
  • Yellow
  • White
  • Silver
  • Turquoise
  • Pink
  • Brown
  • Gray
  • Gold

I picked specific works for the colours and the opposite if you feel challenged to try and show a scene playing with people’s assumption of what colours mean and how this meaning influences how they see the artwork.

We will share the information here on Munich Artists and on our Facebook groups.  If you would like to share your artwork, please join our BCA Munich Artists Challenge Group.

With your permission, I will share some of your images on our instagram feed.

Hello Munich Artists – The Sketchbook Project Begins. Lets get sketching.

This sketchbook project is based in Brooklyn, NY.  We heard about this sketchbook project from Hazel Ang

Page from Hazel Ang’s Sketchbook

Katrin Klug,

Sketchbook page from Katrin Klug’s Sketchbook

and Kerstin Klein

I loved looking through the digital sketchbooks and decided this would be a fun project for Munich Artists. The sketchbook project digitalises the sketchbook so you can share the link to the sketchbook/artwork with everyone you know.

As you can see, I had to pay an enormous amount of VAT for two sketchbooks sent from the US to Munich, Germany.  I had no clue 23 Euro would be added to the price of this project.  Luckily, I am not passing this cost on to you.  All you need to do is decide if you want to invest a few hours sketching in our joint sketchbook.

Here are the two sketchbook packages that I purchased. (One is for me personally).
I’ve chosen Memoir as the theme for the Munich Artists sketchbook. 17 Munich artists can create a sketch over two pages based on this theme.  Two/three artists can work together on a two page spread if they want.  Each artist who works on the sketchbook shall create the artwork at my studio so that I can keep track of the book and post it off to Brooklyn by the deadline. (It can go offsite but only with lots of planning.)

I posted this once in our Facebook group and now, I’m going to start making the list of artists.  I’m keeping the sketchbook at Frauenstrasse 18, 80469 Munich.  You are welcome to work on the sketchbook During the week (between 900 and 1500 or over the Weekend.  You can come any T,W,TH or on an available weekend:

  • November 14/15
  • November 21/22 Manueal Illera
  • November 28/29
  • December 5/6 Penelope Richardson
  • December 12/13
  • December 19/20 Theresa Birkner
  • January 9/10
  • January 16/17 Brigitte Pruchnow
  • January 23/24 a. Echevarria
  • January 30/31 Choco Bot
  • Feb 6/7 Maximilian Lueckenhaus
  • Feb 20/21  Emmy Horstkamp (I’m going to fill in any gaps)

If you want to be one of the 17, please email emmy@kyfio.com or message me on Facebook. I will add your name to the following list:

  1. Emmy Horstkamp
  2. Manuela Illera (done)
  3. Brigitte Pruchnow
  4. Katrin Klug
  5. Yelena Vakker (done)
  6. Rainer Schmitten
  7. E. Echevarria
  8. Penelope Richardson
  9. Petra Winter
  10. Angelica Zeller Michaelson
  11. Edina Fischer
  12. Bobbie Komarek
  13. Choco Bot
  14. Dora
  15. Theresa Birkner
  16. Tanja Hirschfeld
  17. Maximilian Lueckenhaus

You can work during any of those weeks at my studio. I will gladly meet you at your art studio on one of the weekends for a four hour window as long as the studio is within spitting distance of Munich.  If you want longer than four hours, you’ll need to come to Frauenstrasse 18 to work on this during the day or Saturday evening.   We have 12 weeks and 16/17 Artists.  I have no problems having more than one artist per week or we can plan a group get together of artists to work on the book pages over a weekend.  I will scan your artwork/page so you have a digital version of your work but the original sketchbook will be kept at the sketchbook library in Brooklyn, NY

PS. I’m covering the cost for sketchbooks/Zoll. There is no compensation to artists for doing a sketch.  This is a fun international art project that I wanted us to participate in and share our work in their library.   I will share the artwork created by each artist on Munich Artists in a post the day the work is done and on a project page.

Munich Artists 30 day Drawing challenge ended. We will be posting the galleries over the next couple of days.   An exhibition of selected drawings will be at Chilis in Neuhausen.  We will have a party on July 17th, 2015. Since we are supposed to have a Stammtisch on the 17th, I suggest we just incorporate that into the speech part of the party.  You are welcome to come meet the artists who drew their hearts out during the month of June and check out some of the projects we are developing for Munich Artists.  All Artists and art lovers are welcome.  A formal event will be posted on Munich Artists Facebook page.

Munich Artists Post Card Series

I’m working on a postcard series for those postcard racks that I have for the markets.   If you are interested in making postcards, let me know.  I’m looking for whimsical, Munich focused, hipster feeling art.  People love photographs so a combination of photography and illustration would be great.I don’t want anything sappy or generic or just photographs of your artwork. Street photography or graffiti cards would be cool too.

The artist will be compensated on the sale of the cards and whatever work you provide us must not be used someplace else.  Like I don’t want to see it in every store.   If we like the artwork you provide, we may also suggest having limited edition prints made available etc.

Parts of these images from the postcards will also be used in our colouring books.   We are calling them Bookzines because they are not magazines but they are not books. They are something combined.   Each book will have a theme. The theme of the first book is the fact that it is the first Munich Artist’s Bookzine.

TO MARKET WE GO

We have been invited to do an indoor market on July 18th where we will sell our postcards and have photographs available for purchase.  Bookzine will not be ready.   If you are an artist and would like to showcase your work at this market, please let me know. I will not be taking original art pieces except for my own but you are welcome to bring your own original artwork and hawk with the best of them.  I will connect you with the organiser so she can arrange a table for you.

INSTAGRAM

We are on instagram.  Please follow us to get bonus photographs as silliness that I send out throughout the day.  It is a fun place where we can play with street art and have a chat.   You are talking directly to me (Emmy) on Instagram so keep it Vanilla and friendly. I blush easily and I don’t like heavy handed flirting.

More tomorrow. I’m being kicked off my computer by my daughter who won a Bavarian prize for art today so I must bow down to the winner and give her time to practice her art skills on my Wacom drawing board.

Day 22 Munich Artists Lent Challenge – What is Your Colour Palette?

Artist Demotivational: Go ahead and create something with a political agenda or social commentary, people will look at it, discuss it and buy it because it is pink and green and goes with their couch.

Entrepreneurial Motivation:Reverse engineering is your friend.  Don’t reinvent the wheel unless it is a wheel that doesn’t go flat (Thank you Pirelli tires.)

We all have our favourite colours but sometimes we are not aware what they are.   Today take photographs of your house, your artwork, your clothing and put the photographs into this adobe color program.   Be prepared to play around for at least an hour.  At the end of the hour, you should have a selection of color palettes like the one below which show you colours from the photographs.  The program allows you to pick what kind of color mood you want and also lets you save the palettes to you adobe account.  You can also alter the chosen colours and make your own custom palette like this one:

When you are done, feel free to share some of your colour palettes in our Munich Artists Closed group or tag us on Facebook #MunichArtists  or Munich Artists so that we can see what you are creating.
