For..To…Step…Next – A Theatre Performance at Schwere Reiter – Let’s Go!

I know I have not seen this performance yet but I went to the last one organized by Jasmine Ellis’ crew and I liked it so I’m guessing I will love this one since it is the same kind of thing.

Until then, here is the scoop about their performance this weekend:

Nov 17. – Nov 20. 2016

WHAT IS IT?
Performance Experiment: Each evening, the performance is started from a quote or article from a news source printed on the day of the performance.
Every evening is lead by a different artist, involving: dancers,

actors and musicians in new situations and constellations. Their encounters and reactions determine the course of the performance.

And Then The Ray Demski’s Photo Wall Began – I AM REAL LIFE

I went to the show last night featuring 5 dancers, a sketch artist, a musician, a writer and a photographer and I encourage you to go this evening.

Why am I asking you go to the theatre? Because I loved the interaction between the photographer and the dancers and I want you to see this. It is worth spending an hour in the theatre.

The photographer Ray Demski took photos and they were instantly projected on the wall and the prior photos showed as ghost image in the new photos.  I loved how the dancers interacted with the photographer and the images on the wall and each other.

As a writer, I like any activity that includes a writer and last night, a writer got to be on stage with her words. During the performance, the writer wrote text and the text was projected onto a wall. The Writer interacted with what the dancers were doing and through her interaction influenced the decisions of the dancers.  It was interesting to watch this interaction especially when the dancers decided to make her mobile or when the writer decided the dancers needed to do something and then this would be captured by the photographer.

After seeing last night’s performance, I think a digital drawing board would help the drawing artist be more integrated into the performance maybe by using the photos as a starting point for his drawings.  It also would be interesting to have two or three photographers taking photographs and having them projected on the three walls of the theatre since each photographer would have their own visual voice.  Hopefully someone will continue to explore this idea because dancers and photographers belong together on stage.

Please go see the performance and let your creative minds explore the opportunities while enjoying the dance performance and some amazing live photography by Ray Demski.

Here is the blurb the artists sent me to share:
